My First Journey in Second Life

In the virtual world of Second Life, I can create my Avatar not only with different gender, race, and species, but also in various body shape, skin color, and clothing. This is my first-time experience to begin the fantastic journey in Second Life, which really makes me indulge myself in deeply (I even automatically stayed after 12 screen-shooting with my group mates). In the following introductory description, I will first present how I create my character “Super Star tonylu5656.”

After creating my female character, who primarily dressed like a hot teacher (性感女教師), I was teleported to a place called “Freebie Galaxy” where I could decorate myself with free clothing and accessories. By clicking the “T-shirt icon” on the left side of the screen, I can check out what is dressed on me currently. I can also take off the dressing elements by clicking on the R click of my mouse. When I bought my favorite clothes, hairstyle, face look, or accessories, I can just click on the “luggage icon” on the left, then the items will show up immediately. By clicking on the R click of my mouse, I can put the items on.

After the 2 hour shopping, my unique and sexy avatar was created (See fig.1). She has a rose-pink medium hair. She also has a burgundy hat. Her skin color is brightly white. And she has “Angelina Jolie lips,” which makes her quite charming. As for her clothing, I design a black lace jacket (上衣) with deep-V in order to highlight her curvy figure. Her long red feather-like dress makes her not only sexy but also elegant. The wed-like tattoo and the devil wings indicate that she has a rebellious personality. Last but not the least, she has a unique way of walking—model walk, which show her confidence toward her beauty.

During my shopping, I encountered a muscular man with chains on him. He sent me a verbal message by saying “Hey girl, you are hot.” I reply him by both texting “Thank you, you looks pretty cool to me either” and a laughing facial expression. Then he walked away (See fig.2).

Besides clothing, by combing the angle of the camera (the button is at the bottom of the screen) and the gestures of the character, the avatar’s personality can also be presented. For example, in figure 3, I take a low angle shot of my avatar, who is showing her arm muscle. Considering both the spectacular background behind her (the galaxy) and her pose which are organized by low angle shot, her strength is obviously highlighted.

I was invited by the teacher’s assistant to join the class group. Joining the group enables me talk to others in the group. After joining the group, I was quickly offered a teleport by the teacher’s assistant to the class meeting location. After arranging our steps and positions by moving forward and backward (it can be controlled both by the keyboard and the arrow key on the screen, we finally had a pretty cool class shot there (see fig.4).

Finally, Jill, Ruby, and I also chose to take a group picture in front of a lighthouse. I offered them an idea of taking our picture in a long and long shot angle, which not only shows our good relationship but also creates a sense of happy ending of an adventurous day (see fig.5).
